Hi everyone. My name is Tom Hawkins and Petros has requested/conned me in to offering some words of wisdom on training for eventing. To give you a bit of background, I first sat on a horse 7 years ago, at the age of 35, and started lessons with Petros 6 years ago. Our first jumping lesson went something like this:
P: Now pop him over that simple cross pole.
T: Ok
Thud!
P:Are you ok?
T:****!
P:Get back on and go again then.
Thud!
After a while.
P (to my wife): He bounces well doesn’t he?
W: Yes. Bless him.
Six years and a lot of hard work later and I’m ready, hopefully, to commence my first season affiliated eventing starting this Sunday at Tweseldown. Petros has been offering me loads of useful advice to get myself and Mackie ready. Will report soon on whether it worked and what we did. I shall finish with a joke. What do you call a horse that plays the violin? Fiddler on the hoof!
